| Strawberry Jam is the seventh record from the neo-psychedelic group Animal Collective. The album features all members (Panda Bear, Avey Tare, Deakin, and Geologist; along with Scott Colburn who engineered the album.) The album features some of their more avant garde tracks since their early records. Songs such as Peacebone show this off perfectly with a very confusing ⅞ time signature, aggressive screaming vocals filling the background of this track, as well as the nonsensical lyrics throughout the track. This track is a good one to represent the rest of the album with odd time signatures and beats throughout the 9 tracks if this album. Deakin’s singing on this album gives it a very distinct feeling, helping the synth-work and beats create a vacuum of sounds and color. overall, the album is excellent, and well worth a listen. Personal favorite tracks: Peacebone, For reverend Green, Fireworks. Rating: 8/10 |
