Creepypasta started gaining attention in the early 2010s, dedicated sites started to appear, Creepypasta.com was created in 2008, both the Creepypasta Wiki and the Reddit community r/NoSleep spawned in 2010. The introduction of dedicated sites shifted the attitude of the creepypasta community. Instead of anonymous authors, certain users gained notoriety for their stories. Certain characters recieved mass attention from the community, leading to appearances in other stories or outside the creepypasta medium altogether, an example being Jeff the Killer. The entire culture of copying and pasting stories without context was dying off due to writers now wanting to be recognized for their work. The term evolved to include horror media other than text, and stories were starting to become longer and more novel-like. Pages about the genre were showing up too, like a TV Tropes page on December 3rd, 2019, and a New York Times Article on November 12th, 2010. A plethora of fanart, fanfiction, fangames, and any other sort of fan content were made to continue the stories, sometimes film adaptations were made too, the peak was reached, but it was all downhill from there.Zoomed out Google Image results for Jeff the Killer.
