Currently one of the most popular cases of liminal space imagery, the image of "The Backrooms" tends to give an odd feeling. With an overly yellow color scheme, very articial lighting and what seems to be rooms that could either be in a house or office, most of the elements don't fit. All the rooms are vague enough to be familiar but it's unlikely the average person hasn't stayed in a place like it for long. The perception of the image has been altered through various ghost stories told of it, but the unnatural aspects that inspired them are in its relation to emptiness and liminal space.
One of the most common uses of liminal space was in the movie "The Shining". While lit properly, hotels are commonly seen as a liminal space for how short one is stayed in that they never become fully familiar. While obviously not the main contributor towards the horror, usage of these environments that don't quite feel right to look at are a common tool for film production.
Images or edits from old games are popular examples used as they are also a sort of snapshot into many peoples' experience growing up. Showcasing darker or empty areas of what is usually recognizable from childhood messes with the sense of nostalgia similar to how a liminal space of actual locations would for some. For those familiar with it, it's simialr to seeing your childhood home empty or the empty set of a favorite movie.
While a less popular example, the art piece functions on some of the more vague criteria or even straying away from being a liminal space. This dream like pieces use familair elements yet mash them up into either illogical architecture or more of a collage of ideas. it could be argued many contain elements from tranistionary periods in a persons life with vague concepts such as pools or even dreams as a reference.
