Chelsea 4 - 4 Liverpool
2009 Champions League Semifinal, Second Leg

liverpool

In Chelsea's 2009 Champions League campaign, they had cruised all the way to the semifinal and beaten Liverpool 3-1 in the first leg. However, they met resistance at the beginning of the second leg, where the Reds quickly put up two on the Blues to make it 3-3 on aggregate. Chelsea then came into the second half firing, with Liverpool scoring an own-goal before the Blues were able to put one into the back of the Liverpool net to tie the game. Two more goals in the second half saw the game at 4-2 and aggregate once again level at 5-5 with minutes left. Chelsea would then tie the game again with a Frank Lampard goal that hit both posts before going in, sending the Blues through to the final on 7-5 aggregate.

2005 Champions League Round of 16, Second Leg

barca

Coming into the second leg of the 2005 Champions League Round of 16, Chelsea were already down 2-1 on aggregate to a Ronaldinho-led Barcelona. Chelsea came into halftime square at zero, but came out of the dressing room screaming as they quickly put up three on Barcelona. Barcelona looked like they were on their way out of the Champions League due to their notorious habit of giving up, but two Ronaldinho goals quickly squashed suspicions of a swift exit for Barcelona. The second half saw some frantic play and some great opportunities, with a fantastic save from Cech. A decisive John Terry goal with fifteen minutes to go sent the Blues into the Quarterfinal in which they would beat Bayern Munich, but lose to Liverpool in the semifinal.

Bayern Munich 1 - 1 Chelsea
2012 Champions League Final

bayern

In the 2012 Champions League final, Chelsea squared off against arguably the greatest Bayern Munich side in their history. Against the likes of Manuel Neuer, Tony Kroos, Thomas Muller, and Philipp Lahm at Allianz Arena in the heart of Munich, the game looked to be all but Bayern's. The game seemed even more nail-biting for Chelsea fans when Thomas Muller scored the only goal of the game so far 8 minutes from the end. It was a goal from one Didier Drogba, in his last game for the Blues before being transferred in the summer, that equalized and sent the game into extra time. After two extra time periods, the game went to penalties. Peter Cech and Manuel Neuer each saved 3 penalties against some of the greatest strikers the world has ever seen before Didier Drogba, in the very last kick he ever had for Chelsea, buried the ball in the back of the net, securing Chelsea's first ever Champions League.
