Chelsea's Best Seasons

Chelsea is one of the most historic clubs in Europe, despite it only being in existance for around 120 years. Below is a brief list of some of Chelsea's biggest seasons in their history.

In the 1905/06 season, the Blues found quick success in their home of Stamford Bridge. They would finish the season with 53 points in the Second Division, just missing out on promotion to the First Division. Their biggest win came with a 7-0 thrashing against Burslem Port Vale. However, their biggest defeat came in the form of a 7-1 loss to non-league side Crystal Palace.

It would be another 50 years, in the 1954/55 season, before Chelsea would be put on the map as one of the greats. This season came with the win of Chelsea's first Top Division title, which would spark decades of coming success. Chelsea's first league title allowed them to become the first English club to enter the European Cup, which would later become the UEFA Champions League.

In the 1964/65 season, Chelsea won their first League Cup, today known as the Carabao Cup. This came after a decisive 3-2 aggregate victory over Leicester City, denying them a Cup repeat and making them the first club based out of London to win the Cup.

Fast forward a few years to the 1969/70 season, and Chelsea finally captured an FA Cup. In the 99th tournament, Chelsea captured success in a tight-knit series against Leeds United, forcing a 2-2 draw in the first match at Wembley. The next match, played at Old Trafford, saw the Blues come out on top with a 2-1 victory.

In the very next season Chelsea rode off the back of their FA Cup win, capturing their first European silverware with a Cup Winners Cup victory over Real Madrid.

The ensuing decade would not be kind to the Blues, but a FA Cup win in the 1996/97 season capped their triumphant rise back to glory. The following season, Chelsea had their first two-trophy season, securing the League Cup as well as the UEFA Cup Winners Cup for the second time.

For 2004/05, new Blues owner Roman Abramovich brought on Jose Morinho, which prompted the most current wave of Blues success. Morinho was hot off the success of his two straight league titles, UEFA Cup and Champions League Titles with Porto, and he only continued his success in London. They won their first Premier League title that season, which was their first Top Division title in 50 years, as well as the League Cup.

In 2005/06, the Blues followed on this success by capturing the FA Community Shield, as well as a second straight league title, the first and only in the club's history.

In 2006/07, Chelsea won both the League Cup as well as the FA Cup, bringing home their first domestic cup double.

Bringing on former AC Milan boss Carlos Ancelotti, Chelsea captured the Premier League once again with a record 103 goals. They also brought home their second straight FA Cup.

In 2011/12, Chelsea started off with promise, but had a losing streak by January. Roman Abramovich brought on Roberto Di Matteo, and he immediately lit a fire under the rears of the team. In the Champions League, they persisted over the strong sides of Napoli, Barcelona, and Liverpool. Finally, Chelsea upset Bayern Munich at home to capture the UCL title, in what many consider to be the best match in the history of the club. Just as it seemed to be all over with a Thomas Muller goal in the 83rd minute, but club giant Didier Drogba equalized five minutes later forcing extra time. The Blues won 4-3 in a penalty shootout.
