Extinct Flowers

Cosmos atrosanguineus 'Choca Mocha' - Chocolate Cosmos - Asteraceae (The Aster Family)

Chocolate Cosmos (Cosmos atrosanguineus)-

These flowers were also known as Mexican Daisies. These flowers gave off a chocolate scent (hints the name). They were about 60 cm tall and they bloomed in the summer. They have been extinct for over 100 years!

Cooksonias-

These are VERY old flowers, from over 433 to 393 million years ago!! People think it was one of the first plants to have a stem. This plant helped change Earth’s atmosphere and ecosystem so dinosaurs and mammals could live in their environments. Not much is known about these fascinating flowers but they were originally found in Wales.

Orbexilum stipulatum-

These flowers are also known as Falls-of-the-Ohio Scurfpea because they were found near the Ohio river and was first observed in 1838. They were pretty blue flowers but when a local damn was built, its native habitat was submerged and became extinct. There were searches in Kentucky and Indiana but there was no trace, and they haven't been seen since 1881.
